Are you snowboarding or bowling?
Scientific evidence shows that wrist guards can significantly reduce the risk of wrist fractures, but not all guards offer the same degree of protection.
Most snowboarders wear guards designed like skateboard and inline skating guards: short rigid or semi-rigid guards placed on the palm side of the hand. However, you may be surprised to learn that the short palm-side type of guard did NOT originate from scientific study of human biomechanics and impact during falls.
Actually, skateboarders initially took the idea for that type of guard from wrist braces worn by bowlers, and it eventually got imported to snowboarding.
While bowling is certainly a great sport loved by many, it has no similarity to snowboarding and is therefore NOT a good starting point for designing optimal snowboard wrist protection.
